UCLA's Jumpstart Program is a summer program designed to give students without any background in architecture a quick and intensive introduction. Students participate in history/theory and technical representation courses. However, the bulk of the program is centered about the design studio. The studio was broken into two projects: the first a small seating pavilion, and the second a canopy. The projects respectively sought to demonstrate two means of working: through model to explore tectonics, and then drawing and diagram to explore diagramming and representation.
